Collagen is a protein found in all structures of the body: skin, cartilages, tendons, ligaments, and conjunctive tissues. It represents 30% to 35% of the total amount of protein found in the organism, and helps ensure cohesion, elasticity, and regeneration of tissues. It is present in the extracellular matrix of animal organisms. This protein is in charge of reinforcing tissues and creating a resistance mechanism when these are stretched. It is the most abundant protein found in the human body.

 

Today, the low nutritional value found in our food favors premature aging and does not nourish our bodies enough in order to maintain a healthy production of naturally-functional collagen. Because of this, the production of collagen drastically diminishes and no longer fulfills the body’s needs. At the age of 25, collagen levels in our bodies naturally start to drop at a pace of about 1.5% per year. Even in the absence of a disease requiring it’s intake, it is favorable to consume collagen as a preventive measure in order to support and maintain the tissue matrix of our organs.
